PROMOTERS: THE SANSALVADOR FAMILY

As with other families of merchants that made up Barcelona’s bourgeoisie, the Sansalvador family contributed to the urbanisation of the brand new Eixample district devised by Ildefons Cerdà.

More specifically, Pau Sansalvador commissioned master builder Jaume Bernadas with the construction of a building on his 717 m2 plot located on the corner of Bruc and Casp streets.

The resulting building has a basement, ground floor, mezzanine and three upper storeys. Forty years later, his daughter Dolors Sansalvador commissioned architect Francesc de Paula Riera with adding three more storeys in two stages.

The family lived on the main floor, which was the usual dwelling for the owner of the building, and the apartments on the remaining floors were occupied by tenants.
